Notes:
There is a lot going on at this meet this Friday. First and
foremost is that if the URI administration does not reverse there
decision, this will be the last Rhody home meet ever. Senior
night meets are always emotional and generally draw well, but
this meet has a much larger significance given the circumstances.
Still, regardless of the programs survival, it will be the last
meet at Mackal for the senior class. This presumably means Kerry
Cutler, Erica Heaney, Bridget Hild, Kara Machado, Bridget Murphy,
Casey Pereira, Jamie Reyell, and Emily Rinaldo. They have all
made appearances over the years and contributed to their team in
various ways which will be covered at some point later on, as the
season itself goes on even after the home finale.
Yale returns to action after a week off, as they continue to wrap
up their season with road meets. Yale is continuing to have a
solid year and looks to consider their success in Kingston. They
have had a variety of team and individual success stories this
season.
Division 2 Southern Connecticut has also been having a good year,
and its up for grabs who will in the Division 2 ECAC
Championships as the Owls and the Bridgeport Purple Knights have
been both been producing a bunch of good scores.
Division 3 MIT has had their share of individual successes as
well, and it goes beyond Julia Zimmerman and Sophia Harrison, who
are often picking up awards and accolades. The entire team is
showing scoring improvements among the mix of rookies,
sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
It is unknown which all arounders will compete in the meet, but
within the building there is a top of the top all arounders in
the region as URIs Riportella, MITs Zimmerman, and
Harrison, Yales Liao, Kivisto, and Campbell, and SCSUs
Pysh and Basley will all be in the house. If even a few of those
gymnasts compete AA itll be a lively All Around
competition.
It is hard to put into words the mix of talents that will pass
through the gym this Friday, as the teams all utilize lineups
with varying depth and abilities, but what is clear is that all
four teams will put forth a lively floor rotation, and each have
their own strengths and weaknesses across the other events.
